![]() ![]() It's better to have a monthly income, especially if you can lock clients into a contract, then it is to get a one-time sale of a license. ![]() It makes a lot of sense from a continuous business standpoint to sell your software as a service instead of charging per-license. Keep in mind Universal basicly HIRED Frontier to make the game and Universal has the final say on *everything*ĭon't hate software companies too much. I think Universal keeps Frontier on a tight leash. A wishlist is something a lot of customers take as gospel and get angry when it is not done. Promising AI improvements before the patch is realeased is what I was speaking of. Lets just hope regardless of this discussion that we continue to see updates and improvements with time I can understand your side of the argument, it just doesn't sit with me. It seems we just have different sides of the coin on this one. Basically the roadmap would be a reverse patch note They won't put something in a roadmap that would negatively portray anything because it will affect FDs sales (which they need to recover their self funding - that's why I mention that here) and so what we'd see in a roadmap would be things like Animation improvements, Various stability fixes, Various performance improvements. A roadmap is basically a developers wishlist/to do list. This is why I say it'd be even less likely for Universal to prevent the creation of a roadmap. So if what you're saying is true then FD shouldn't have been allowed to say those things in their patch notes in case those updates have caused more problems? That makes no sense You say that Universal controls how the brand is viewed, and that saying "fixed AI" could work against Universals public view, yet Frontier released patch notes saying things like Animation improvements, Various stability fixes, Various performance improvements. ![]() Also even if self funded, I am sure Universal is getting royalties on this product. Even saying they "fixed AI" and if it turns out far worse than it was before affects how Universal is viewed. If Frontier broke the game in such a way that it affected how JP customers view the brand Frontier would no doubt be in trouble with Universal (the brand owner). I am not trying to argue with you but even self funded, Universal owns the creative license for JP and as such controls how the brand is viewed. You'd be wrong on the first two points but correct on the third. It's probably an irrelevant discussion though, since FD have never roadmapped for the reasons they give and probably won't start now even if they could That's all we want on the roadmap, and again nothing in a document as that would be restricted by UniversalĪs it's self funded and self published I seriously doubt that Universal have as much hold over this as some people believe It's much in the same vein as the patch notes they release. Even a broken or "botched" update messes with a brand or Frontier promising something and being unable to deliver.Ī roadmap doesn't have to go into specifics about what will be each point being developed though. They can say that FD aren't allowed to depict the indoraptor in a way that mimics a tricerotops, but they can't stop FD from saying "this month we're working on dinosaur AI updates, improving fight animations, adding park decorations and adding 3 more dinosaurs"Īctually it does. I want it finished and complete when I buy it, and then I'll be happy to pay for a game "expansion"īut that wouldn't prevent FD from releasing a roadmap at all I dont want a game finished down the line. It encourages developers to release unfinished products then basicly charge customers to finish the game over time. and then maybe release a paid expansion down the line. I also blame software companies for this also. Sure they have said in generic terms what the future holds, but no real specifics.Īnd lastly no gaming company is required to even do DLC :) A lot of people now a days expect a game to come out and be developed further over the next year. I think a lot of reasons why we see no real roadmap is because the devs either just don't know, or they are not allow to say. Keep in mind Universal basicly HIRED Frontier to make the game and Universal has the final say on *everything* ![]()
